I saw a bumper sticker on Friday that said “Warning: I make bad decisions” and if there was ever a sentence that summed up my life that is it. Not to mention I saw it while I was riding a motorcycle at night. On wet roads. Without a helmet. That makes me wonder if I have a subconscious death wish so today I filled out the paperwork to preplan my own funeral. Which leads me to bad decision number two in the past three days: I requested a stereo system and a memory foam mattress in my casket.

The stereo is brilliant but the mattress is a big mistake. When people visit my grave, they’re going to hear the muffled sounds of Mötley Crüe coming from 6 feet under. I’ll be rocking but I won’t be rolling–not with a memory foam mattress anyway. My skeleton needs a spring mattress that will bounce when I’m headbanging my way though the afterlife. Since there’s no time to waste, next weekend I’m visiting a funeral home then napping in the caskets to see which is comfiest.

It’ll be a hoot since next weekend is Halloween and I’ll be wearing a Dracula costume.

Before I test caskets in as a Transylvanian vampire, I’ll need to butter up the funeral director with some Halloween Popcorn Balls. Trust me, bribes don’t get any better: they’re cheap, they’re easy and ooey gooey good for sinking your fangs into. Ingredients

  

• 3 Tbsp vegetable oil
• 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
• 5 Tbsps unsalted butter
• 5 cups miniature marshmallows
• 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
• Halloween sprinkles
• Candy eyeballs

Instructions

 

• Line a baking sheet with waxed paper. Set aside.
• Add oil and popcorn kernels in an even layer to a 4-quart saucepan with a heavy bottom.
• Cover pan with a lid left slightly ajar and place over medium heat.
• Popcorn will pop after a few minutes. When popping slows to a few seconds between pops, remove pan from heat and transfer popcorn to a large bowl.
• Using a spoon so you don't burn your fingers, remove and discard any unpopped kernels. Set aside.
• Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat.
• Add mini marshmallows and sugar, stirring constantly until completely melted.
• Pour marshmallow mixture over popcorn then stir until evenly coated.
• Coat hands with nonstick cooking spray then, working quickly while the melted marshmallows are still warm, form popcorn into baseball-sized balls.
• Roll popcorn balls in Halloween sprinkles then add candy eyeballs.
• Place popcorn balls on your baking sheet until cooled and set then enjoy.
• Cover leftovers tightly with plastic wrap and store at room temperature up to 3 days.
